General Tan Sri Zulkifli Haji Zainal Abidin, MM 1998, visited the Asian Institute of Management last April 11, 2019, to receive his AIM Alumni Achievement Award (Triple A).
General Zulkifli was appointed to the eminent post as Malaysia’s Chief of Army on June 14, 2011. A graduate of the Royal Military College at Port Dickson before coming to AIM, General Zul is an expert in tactical weapons and insurgency. He has had many years of experience both on and off the field – as Senior Instructor in the New Zealand Army Infantry School, and as Commander at the Malaysian Army Infantry Training Center. For his consummate professionalism and never-ending drive to improve both himself and those he leads, General Zul, as Chief of Defence Forces, as Army Commander, and as a teacher has made extraordinary contributions to his nation and to humanity.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked 2006 Triple A Awardee and former High Court Judge, Dato’ Syed Ahmad Idid, ABMP 1983 and former FAIM Chairman, Dr. Haji Zulkifly Baharom, MM 1989 for their original nomination and documentation. He likewise thanked the President & Board of Kelab AIM Malaysia for endorsing his nomination to the Federation of AIM Alumni Associations, Inc. (FAIM).
Reminiscing his student days, Gen Zulkifli remarked, “The Can group, case discussion, an acceptable MRR, walkabout, consultancy project had all been effective action learning tools in decision making applicable for my work. In my line of work, I must decide a crystal-clear course of action to take and justify the selection from the alternative decisions or options. At AIM, we acquired noble values from the diverse races, religions, languages, and civilizations which met in good confluence. “
AIM Chairman, Peter Garrucho, AIM President and Dean Jikyeong Kang, FAIM Secretary-General Greg Atienza, MBM 1983 and Kelab AIM Malaysia President, retired Col. Ben Ariffin, MM 1997 conferred the Triple A medal and trophy to Gen. Zulkifli.
The event was graced by the presence of former Secretary of National Defense and former Executive Secretary and Triple A awardee, Gen Renato de Villa, MBM 1972. Triple A Club President, Mr. Ed Limon, MBM 1974 likewise graced the event.
Gen Zulkifli was treated to a nostalgic lunch reception by his MM 1998 classmates, led by Class president Nieves Lim.
