Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen visited Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and the St. Christopher and Nevis, Taiwan’s diplomatic allies in the Caribbean last July 13-19, 2019.
Her itinerary is aimed at shoring up relations with four Caribbean nations that continue to formally recognize the government in Taipei.
In a speech prior to her departure from Taiwan, Tsai pledged to use the trip to increase international cooperation. “Freedom, democracy, and sustainability are the Taiwanese values we want to share with all our good friends in the world. We will by no means restrict ourselves to a small corner of the Taiwan Strait.”
President Tsai was assisted by Mr. David Chang, MM 1993, President of Taiwan’s Overseas Engineering and Construction Co. (OECC) and 2019 Triple A Awardee. OECC has been continuously carried out infrastructure projects to support local living and economy of those Caribbean countries.
